Hello everyone. My name is SAEKI Ayaka. I am currently studying abroad at the University of Yaounde 1 in Cameroon, majoring in Anthropology.

It is said that there are more than 250 ethnic groups in this country. In fact, I encounter various food cultures and languages in my daily life. The official languages are English and French, but in the capital city where the university is located, people mainly speak French from casual conversations to class. I am working hard to learn it, with the assistance of my kind classmates. The situation in Yaoundé is very interesting to me in terms of ethnicity and sociolinguistics. It is a great honor to study here as the university’s first long-term exchange student. Sometimes I feel anxious because there is no other exchange students like me, but the warm welcome I’ve received helped me enjoy the moment.

Besides my classes, I have volunteered at a music school and a Japanese language institute and have visited a museum and a national park. I will continue to make an effort to lead a full life.

Last but not least, I deeply appreciate everyone who supports my studies in Cameroon.
