Five international exchange sub-programs will be jointly conducted by Kyoto University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) that include short- and mid-term educational exchange and long-term exchange for degree obtainment (see figures below).

Student exchange at TUFS primarily consists of sending and accepting mid- to long-term study-abroad students for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Students from TUFS will be sent for up to one year to universities in various African countries using the study abroad program at our university. Credits obtained at the partner university while studying abroad must be reviewed against our university criteria to be approved as valid credits for graduation or completion of the degree.

TUFS will accept exchange students in the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP-TUFS) lasting from a half-year to one-year from the five African universities with which an academic exchange agreement is signed. In addition to the standard curriculum that ISEP students will take, many programs that allow exchange with Japanese students from TUFS will also be provided. Credits obtained through the ISEP-TUFS program can be transferred toward the degree obtained by the exchange student from their own school.

A “Joint International Conference” will be hosted regularly on a common theme in in-person and online formats in parallel to the exchange of students. The conferences will provide an occasion for students from the institutions participating in the program to present their educational achievements within this project. They will also encourage participation from a wide range of related fields to serve as publicity for the program details and reinforce and promote collaboration and exchange with the universities of various African nations.
